ep. 67: exit strategy

To the world, she has a bachelor's in Psych and an MBA.

She runs a Plant Based Health and Business Biz.

She has The Plant Protocol Podcast, which I have not listened to.

Her vision is to extend

the healthy life expectancy

of people of color.

I found her on the line, as we do. Thank you, Google.

This is what she said, that I loved:

"Health does not begin in the kitchen or the gym."

YES.

We commonly do START to improve our health most often with

diet and exercise.

In my Heal Your Life program, I hope I articulated powerfully enough:

the 3 types of human personalities

(mostly women)

with autoimmune disease - (YES!)

the VICTIM, the PLEASER & the IMPATIENT.

(You heard me. They've nailed it down!)

The stories we believe about ourselves and "LIFE"

do truly make us sick.

So, Lisa Smith gave 3 places to START, to improve your health,

(without negating plant diets and exercise:)

1 - sleep hygiene, all night

2 - ELIMINATE CHRONIC stress

3 - identify and fulfill your PURPOSE

What had me pausing the video and grabbing a pen was this:

to eliminate chronic stress

is NOT managing it.

To manage regular stress, she said,

we do the usual things:

journaling, meditation and self-care.

Which, as you know, is what I do for myself and encourage for clients.

She said it: CHRONIC stress requires an exit strategy,

a path of elimination.

(Why does that feel like permission???)

TODAY'S DEEP BREATH: here's a practical juju nugget, a collective Next Best Decision.

I am all about MANAGING

I got some new journal prompts on the site (link above.)

There's my li'l mini podcast with snack-size nuggets.

I'm all about calmly watching your brain.

(Raise your hand if I've coached you!)

Another tip for managing stress that was passed to me today:

Work 1 hour, then fuel yourself with self care for 1 hour.

Give an hour, get an hour.

That doesn't mean an 8 hour bath after you leave your job -

but think of cooking as self care,

think of showering and laundry and

prepping food for tomorrow's lunch as self care,

be more fully conscious that you are caring for yourself during these tasks.

INTENTIONALLY, FEEL CARED FOR.

8 hours at work, 8 hours of self care, 8 hours of sleep.

Which means, the things you do as self care -

make them count

or drop 'em.

But Lisa Angel Smith is talking about chronic stress,

and recommending an exit strategy

to ELIMINATE it.

PREACH!

I've been known

to eliminate

some chronically stressful things

in my life.

By that, I mean

they or it are not going to change -

as much as I might have tried

to change or

manage them.

Some things just don't get better.
