Welcome friends, come on in. Lets pretend we are gathered in real space, real time, together. So nice to see your faces! Feel free to reply and tell me about your days and how you are choosing to spend your time. Meanwhile, let's share a caffeine beverage and a few words together.
Does it sound like I have lost my mind? Imagining friends are here with me, pretending to chat with them... Well, it doesn't hurt, so let's just go with it.
I almost decided to not do this email today. It seemed a little 'extra.' I've been journaling about my relationships, trying to re-frame them so my thoughts about them feel Better. I am taking a class from Yale online called The Science of Well-Being. I've restarted my gratitude journal that I found on the shelf from, I kid-you-not, 1996. Instead of writing five things each day, as Oprah then suggested, I am writing one thing each day that is a great memory, that I've taken a photo of and that when I go back and read it, a smile erupts. The Yale class calls this SAVORING. Makes sense, doesn't it? We savor food. Instead of letting the brain latch on to every negative thing, as it is prone to do.
Practicing the savoring of a good thing, just one, has me looking for positive, enjoyable moments. Even creating them. Like the paper chains I absolutely ADORED making in elementary school, my own colorful chain of events are being recorded because I have this time.
Today's Deep Breath: (This is a little juju nugget. May or may not be helpful.)
Are you liking this time with yourself? Do you like YOU?
How are you filling it, and why do you choose those things?
Are you craving an escape?
Until next time,
Tami Lowe
